Mumbai City FC return to the Mumbai Football Arena to take on Jamshedpur FC in their first home fixture of the year. The Islanders are eager to build on their recent momentum, following a thrilling 3-2 victory against East Bengal FC. Ahead of the fixture, Head Coach Petr Kratky emphasized the significance of every point this season, noting the need for consistency across 90 minutes.
Reflecting on the previous match, Kratky said, “The three points, like every point this season, are very important. However, after leading 2-0 comfortably in a strong first half, we need to focus on how we can carry that momentum into the second half and dominate for more than just 45 minutes.”
As the team prepares for their clash with Jamshedpur FC, Kratky shared his mindset heading into the fixture, “It doesn’t matter who we play against. I don’t focus on the points ladder or where we are. We need to win—that’s the number one goal for us. We need to play good football and work hard, as that gives us a better chance to succeed, whether it’s climbing the ladder or winning the league. The focus is simply on winning the game,” he added.
Kratky also addressed the strengths of Jamshedpur FC. “Jamshedpur are a very good team, which is why they are where they are. They beat us in the reverse fixture, so we need to prove ourselves. It’s clear that they have strong players, especially with their aerial duels and crosses into the box. It’s about how we prepare for that,” Kratky stated.
Goalkeeper TP Rehenesh, who has been instrumental as the designated goalkeeper, including two clean sheets said, “This season has had its ups and downs, of course, but the last game has been a mood changer for us. Every day, we’re looking forward step by step, so we’re not worried about the long run. We’re just focused on the next one,” said Rehenesh.
He further added, “It’s been a total team effort because everyone works really hard for it, and I’m happy to have contributed with a few clean sheets. If you ask me, it’s always a collective effort to help the team secure points, and that’s what matters most,” Rehenesh remarked.
Having previously played for Jamshedpur FC, Rehenesh is aware of the challenges that lie ahead. “I know what their mentality will be because I was there for a long time. I understand how the players will approach the game and what the coach will expect and demand from them. In a way, this has helped me prepare for tomorrow. I’m sure it’s going to be a busy night,” Rehenesh said.
Kratky also emphasized the importance of the fans in creating the right atmosphere “I know they are expecting a response after the previous home game, and I’m on their side. I’m looking forward to that, to the fight, to see the courage of the players and give the fans the result they deserve,” Kratky concluded.
