After a solitary game in nearly three weeks, Des Buckingham’s Mumbai City are back in action for their first out of two crucial games in 72 hours. The Islanders square off against ATK Mohun Bagan at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda later today with action kicking off at 7:30PM.

Returning to action after a long hiatus, the Islanders took to the pitch against Khalid Jamil’s NorthEast United. An Ahmed Jahouh penalty capped off a strong first half performance for the Islanders but Des Buckingham’s were forced to settle for a draw after the Highlanders eked in an equalizer through Mohammad Irshad. The solitary point meant the Islanders remained winless in six games and outside of the top four spots.

The Mariners have seen a marked overhaul in their fortunes, especially after the appointment of Juan Ferrando who replaced the outgoing Antonio Habas. Unbeaten in seven, ATK Mohun Bagan have won twice and drawn twice since the former FC Goa boss took charge, most recently running out 3-1 winners in the Kolkata Derby against SC East Bengal.

This is a fixture that has the makings of a classic every time the two sides come against each other and tonight promises to be another chapter in this feisty rivalry that could define the business end of the season for both sides.

Who said what:

Des Buckingham: They have a bit of different team from the last time we played against them with a different head coach and the style of working. We are aware of that. But it’s about making sure that we are as ready as we can be for the game.
