Mumbai City FC are gearing up for a pivotal encounter against Hyderabad FC at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday night. As the Indian Super League (ISL) enters its decisive phase, the Islanders are determined to replicate their success from the reverse fixture earlier in the season, where they secured a victory. With only four games remaining in the league phase, every point is crucial for Mumbai City FC as they aim to solidify their position in the standings.
Head coach Petr Kratky emphasized the importance of the upcoming fixture, stating, “It's a very crucial game for us, to be honest. We're at a stage in the season where we have to be fully focused when we go to Hyderabad because they're also a very good team, and they're getting better every game.”
Kratky further acknowledged the challenge, adding, “Hyderabad has nothing to lose. They’ll fight as a young, spirited team full of energy. Our expectations are for a quality, high-tempo game. Like everyone else, they’ll want to beat us and prove a point, so we have to be switched on from the first minute.”
On his approach to the game, Kratky shared, “I’m not looking too far ahead and this is the time of the season when we need to push and stick together. This is where I thrive, when times are tough, I push harder and don’t give up. I expect the same from the team. It will be a difficult game in Hyderabad, but we need to keep pushing and moving forward.”
This resilience will be key for Mumbai City FC, especially after their recent 1-3 defeat to FC Goa. The loss was a setback, but the team is determined to bounce back. Goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa echoed this sentiment, saying, “Losing a game at home is always tough, but as professionals, we have to move on and focus on the next game, that’s what we need to do. We don’t have many matches left, and it’s up to us whether we go up or down from here. Every game from now on is like a Final for us.”
Lachenpa also highlighted the importance of preparation and teamwork. “I think, both individually and collectively, we need to be prepared because Hyderabad are doing very well. We have to follow the coach's plan, give our best, and execute it because we need to win that match.”
Reflecting on the campaign so far, Kratky opined, “The season has been one of ups and downs. some good results, some less than ideal results, but the competition keeps getting better. As I said before the season, there are seven or eight clubs competing for the Final, and here we are today. Player availability has also impacted our points throughout the season, but we will keep fighting and aim to finish as high as possible.”
Kratky also highlighted the importance of the fans in the team’s journey. “Their support is like fuel for the team. When they cheer, it gives us extra courage and pushes us forward, so they are very important to us. Hopefully, before the last game of the season when we return home, we can finish on a high. I know there have been ups and downs, but we want to finish strong, and they are a big part of that.”
