Mumbai City FC are set to play their first match of the year, as they take on East Bengal FC in an away fixture at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium (VYBK). Ahead of the match, both head coach Petr Kratky and midfielder Yoell Van Nieff emphasized the importance of teamwork and focus for the season ahead.

Commenting on the challenge posed by East Bengal FC, Kratky acknowledged their strength, “East Bengal is a good team. They have a new coach, and they're improving with every game. Every team can beat us, and we can beat every team.”

Kratky further added, “We need to do a little more when we are going forward, we need to consider the counterattacks, as teams are very strong in that area. There are not going to be any dramatic changes in our approach or how we play.”

Mumbai City FC recently bolstered their unit with the addition of Prabir Das on loan from Kerala Blasters FC. Speaking on the value he brings to the team and the squad dynamic, Kratky said, “I'm very happy. He will refresh the team, and there’s a bit more competition, which can energize the team. For me, it’s very important that there are no free tickets. You need to perform. We need to ensure the team stays strong for the rest of the season, as there is still a lot to play for.”

Dutch midfielder Yoell Van Nieff emphasized the importance of teamwork for the upcoming clash and broader season. He said, “This season, teamwork is the most important thing—we attack together, we defend together, and that’s the key. Even last season and the season before, it was the foundation of Mumbai City’s success. No one is bigger than the team, and so far, we’ve shown that we can be a good team. I believe that’s the most important factor and the key to achieving success.”

He further added, "Yeah, I can say I’ve started the season really well, of course, with two goals as a defensive midfielder, which is ideal, along with some assists as well. I think that's how I need to be important for the team. Not only in attack but also in a defensive role. Sometimes, it's more important for me to maintain balance and ensure the defensive part of the team is solid, maybe even stopping counterattacks from the opponents. “

The importance of fan support had not gone unnoticed, with Van Nieff highlighting their role in the team's performance. “As the coach mentioned, everyone is really pleased with the fans. If you see the support they give us, it’s powerful. They cheer for us all the time. The atmosphere now is a bit different compared to last season, for example, but people are still coming to support us and giving us their best so that we can give our best.”
