Consecutive wins in the bag for the Islanders as Des Buckingham’s side kick off the final quarter of the Islanders’ league campaign tonight. Mumbai City make their second trip to the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim this season as they square up against Jamshedpur FC with action kicking off at 7:30 PM.

After ending a seven-game winless run against Chennaiyin, the Islanders built on the high when they faced Odisha FC. Mumbai City had to wait but before the stroke of half time, Igor Angulo opened the floodgates with a deft header past Arshdeep in the Odisha goal. Bipin Singh stretched the Islanders’ lead almost immediately after the restart before the duo added a goal each making it 4-0 for Des Buckingham’s side. Odisha’s Jonathas added a consolation in stoppage time as the night ended in a 4-1 win.

Jamshedpur FC currently sit in fourth place, level on points with the Islanders but with a game in hand. The Men of Steel have strengthened their credentials with the addition of Daniel Chima Chukwu in the January transfer window, who has scored in the last three outings for Owen Coyle’s side. Jamshedpur FC come into tonight’s fixture off the back of a comprehensive 3-0 win over Kerala Blasters with ace forward Greg Stewart bagging a pair of penalties.

The final five games of the league campaign are upon the Islanders. A win for either side will fortify a spot in the top four and potentially towards a title charge and a battle of wits between two English coaches could be all-defining.

Who Said What:

Des Buckingham: You know, the players work hard daily, and I think it's gonna be another tough challenge for us, but I think we just got back to focusing upon our style of play. And the pleasing thing from the last game was that we were able to demonstrate that across the whole game rather than for patches.
